Well… we don’t really know how big the market or demand is for mobile movie rentals. And everyone on Sprint Android phones already get plenty of bundled/free streaming television content. Although the resolution and selection are often lacking. I think it’s only a matter of time before Netflix and Hulu land on Android. Probably this year.

I noticed the key word you used was “professional” but I don’t think android needs a central hub for just movies. With the growing number of high end android device’s running 2.2 and flash support. There is already a decent amount of sites like crackle,surfthechannel,aether. That offer plenty of content to watch. There are also a few apps that allow you to stream high quality movies. Download rockplayer and throw any video on your. Card and your off to the races

Verizon just launched the FiOS on Demand for Droid2 and DroidX. Looks like you can rent and buy movies and watch them on 3 screens Mobile, PC and Fios TV.

I think much of it is because Android does not have a very strong payment ecosystem like the iPhone. There are not too many paid apps at the moment and Android market place has just been extended to many countries. Its quite possible developers/ organisations don’t see money making opportunities right away on Android.
