Peanut Labs is announcing today it’s been acquired by e-Rewards, owner of Research Now. The two companies both perform online data collection, but Peanut Labs has users complete market research surveys in exchange for virtual credits on services like Pogo, RockYou, Playdom. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
As part of the deal, Peanut Labs will effectively shut down its offers-based business by giving remaining publishers in the program 100 percent of revenue. That’s because e-Rewards gives Peanut Labs sufficient survey inventory to monetize all its partners’ titles, said Peanut Labs CEO Ali Moiz.
Peanut Labs had raised a $3.2 Million Series A round from Leapfrog Ventures and BV Capital in 2008.
On a personal note, Peanut Labs was the first company I ever covered for GigaOM, back on my first day in 2006. At the time the company was called XuQa and was starting down the path of monetizing its college-based social network by turning it into a game where users earned points for sitting through ads and joining affiliate programs.
