It is a good thing that VMware has realised that virtualisation is a commodity now and management of virtual solutions is the key. VMware has been investing a lot of money in making truly world class products and I'd really like them to come out with their own Azure or AppEngine like service, if for nothing else then as a proof of concept.

I think for the long term VMware needs a partnership with a Tier-1 IT services company. This is because if fortune 1000 companies continue down the path of outsourcing their IT functions, it could be their IT services vendors who decide what virtualization technology to use.

With VMware's tight relationship with Cisco, HP and IBM are not viable partners. Would the large independent IT services companies like Accenture, CapGemini, Infosys, TCS, Wipro make sense?

Thoughts welcome..
