The truthaboutcars article is boilerplate crap. Not worth disassembling.

Not much more useful than the "range extender" adverts we expect from GM - based on commutes double the national average.

The only current commuter in my family would make out just fine with a Leaf - between her daily roundtrip = less than average + our cost of electricity = less than average [in an electricity exporting state].

Even bumping those numbers up to national averages the choice is a piece of cake. But, not until her ancient Volvo bites the big one. Still averaging 24mpg. :-]

> 8). Saving on Gas? Not So Much

I found this point a little misleading. With a LEAF, you will definitely save quite a bit on "fueling" costs. However, the point being made by the referenced article is that the total cost of ownership, including the initial price of the car, is only slightly better than that of a gasoline car. That is no surprise, and is what Nissan has been telling us all along.

With mass production and continued improvements in battery technology, electric cars should eventually become cheaper than gasoline cars, as they have fewer components and are simpler to maintain.
