By Josh Halliday: Caroline Little, the chief executive of Guardian News & Media’s US operation, is to step down from her role with the company.

Little will remain chief executive of GNM’s New York-based digital media industry news subsidiary, ContentNext Media.

The former head of the Washington Post’s digital business joined GNM in August 2008 as a consultant to its US operation and was installed as chief executive in January 2009.

“Caroline Little will be leaving her position as chief executive of Guardian News & Media, North America, in the autumn. Caroline remains CEO of ContentNext Media and we look forward to continuing the fantastic work that Caroline has done for us since she took up the GNM position in January last year,” said a spokeswoman from GNM, which is part of the Guardian Media Group and publisher of mediaguardian.co.uk.

Little says: “I led the strategy for guardian.co.uk in the US; that strategy has been implemented and things are operating well. It’s been great fun and I adore the Guardian. It just seemed like the right time to transition.”
