Zynga has hired Owen Van Natta, the MySpace (NSDQ: NWS) and Facebook veteran, as its EVP of business operations, as the social gaming giant continues to build out its executive ranks. This will be Van Natta’s third job in a year and a half; he stepped down as CEO of Playlist in April 2009 to take the top job at MySpace, only to leave the social network less than a year later, as part of a major management shakeup. Since then, he’s been consulting for Zynga.

Van Natta’s new responsibilities will include managing the company’s revenue, corporate development, and international operations. He’s also joining the company’s five-member board.

The hiring comes two weeks after Zynga added Allen & Co. investment banker David Wehner as its CFO — a move that was considered to be a big step on the way to an eventual IPO. Company representatives have been mum on when one might be coming.

Zynga, which has raised more than $384 million in funding (not including a reported $100 million to $200 million investment from Google) has been, of course, growing very rapidly. It has recently set its sights on expanding to Asia, via a major joint venture with Japanese internet and telecom firm Softbank and the recent purchases of Japanese social gaming company Unoh and Beijing-based social gaming developer XPD Media.

  2. odd thing is he just ended up on their board of directors, which, to me, is a really bad choice for Zynga. It won’t take long for Brad Feld to figure this out.
