ABI Resarch Forecasts Major Growth For App Downloads In 2010

As Android and other platforms become more serious about their apps stores, the healthiest app economy in terms of downloads will remain on Apple’s iPhone, according to ABI Research, which released its five-year forecast today. Overall, the biggest spike in app downloads is occurring right now with downloads nearly tripling between 2009 and 2010.

In 2009, ABI estimated that 2.4 billion apps were downloaded and that this year 6 billion will be downloaded. A majority of them are expected to occur on the iPhone.
