In my opinion, the government should do the following:

Prevent monopolistic practices
Regulate activities that can cause interference with devices.

When ISP's lose their monopolies, there would be tons of private ISP's running fiber all over the place.

Based on the article from Monday about municipalities providing 100 mbps at lower costs than carriers, it is not surprising that carriers are pushing back.

Problem needs to be taken from carriers at national market prices and put back in the hands of municipalities in terms of local fair market prices.

If one chooses to live out in the middle of nowhere where there is no service, that is the sacrifice they make. We can't force tax payers or wireless subs the pick up the bill. It is that mentality that leaves our country with substantial debts.

We all know that broadband isn’t universally available, nor will it be for some time to come (if ever). One question the NBP does not answer is, who is ultimately responsible for universal broadband access — government, service providers, or end users?
