They are situated in a location and on land that is relatively safe from both earthquakes and volcanoes. Their building sits on the former NATO airbase in Keflavik. The largest roadblock to building effective data centers in Iceland is the cost of network. With global transit pricing crashing, Iceland costs are much too high as compared to the rest of the world. That makes Iceland a fabulous location for high power and low network capacity needs, such as compute farming, but not much else. Iceland is not competing for customers with the US and Europe; when Iceland can offer some knockout punch pricing, I believe that we’ll see a huge influx of projects. Until then, the Iceland data-center industry will continue to be luke warm.
