I'll choose Google TV, because apple has so many compititors, SAMSUNG, blackberry... (iphone 4, ipad). It's an astonishing phenomena that apple provide users the same content (services) as its compititors with itunes, And the video converter and dvd ripper are no bussiness of "apple" or "blackberry"(both can use them)...on free offline videos (you can get many free videos converter and dvd rippers which are working on windows and different with handbrake from aneesoft official website, but ifunia is should be paid for apple devices on mac).
There's no way to tell for sure, but the fact that Google is collaborating with several other developers means that logitech and sony think Google TV is a good idea. As far as ending up with good search results, none have matched Google.
Then again, apple has Itunes, and thus controls the MP3 market.
Then again, does anyone want a computerized TV?

The only other products I have seen that interface internet and TV are video game systems, particularly the PS3. Do people appreciate the internet access on PS3? If so, one of these systems will probably succede, and I believe it will be google because of it's partnerships.

For me the big thing about google tv is how it improves the way you interface with cable channels, I wish apple would just make a cable box, and if it connected to anything else it would just be a bonus. The GUI on cable and sat dish boxes is like using windows 95, and anything from apple to replce that experience would change my life( I spend slot of time watching TV)

It will come down to
Interface
Affordability (pricing model as well as perceived value)

I want Video on demand. I want to be able to search for that content in ease manner, throw the keyboard out right now, cause when I'm lazed back on the couch, I don't want one. You'd almost have to maintain a "channel" mentality (after all, that's what people are really use to), display programs in category and through the user of a list of keywords or something.

I also want that content to be high quality. Using a HD large screen deserves high quality content.

I don't want to pay for each episode. I don't care of a season will only cost $24 ($1 per episode) when I have a perceived value of next to near nothing, especially if I don't get to keep it!! Give me the option to buy the season at a discounted price!!

It should not lock me into a hardware solution. I have nearly 12tb of network attached storage with a spectrum of media on it already, any solution should be able to work with it, without needing me to jump through hoops or having the solution decide how it should be arranged and managed, I should simply be able to pick up the video and play it (and it shouldn't break the interface)...

Having tried the ATV and can tell you my experience does not marry with that of the article. In fact, put XBMC on it, it's simply a better interface and delivery system.

I use BTTV because it is very difficult to 1. get the programs I want to watch from free to air and 2. it's just to dame hard to arrange my schedule around the broadcasters.

Coupled with my "patched" ATV and XBMC means I'm free the choice of what and when to watch. (add in my DVD collection and it's simply hard to beat).

I know, a DVD series is probably more expensive then downloading it via a paid service like iTunes, but then again, I actually get to keep the media.

The "cloud" is a convenient way to try and beat piracy and it might work for a spectrum of people who do not have the technical know how to do otherwise, but these aren't the people you need to defeat. Besides, I'm not going to sacrifice my limit bandwidth to cloud based storage of this type of media! Download it once, store it locally, get your hands of it!!

To Johnny,

The nexus one, while it has it's software problems, is an infinitely more beautiful phone than the iPhone. There is nothing about it that looks "Fisher Price". How about you stop being a little Apple fanboy and get your facts straight. Google TV is going to revolutionize this field with the openness of its system. Example of this, FLASH PLAYER ON A PHONE. Apple and Steve Jobs need to come out of the rock they're living under and realize that people want things that they are denying them. Android system is going to surpass the iPhone this year, meaning more and more people are becoming accustomed to system being used for Google TV. While they have many problems, Google is putting out updates for Android at about 4 times the speed that Apple is, correcting tons of problems with each one, and moving well beyond the capacities of the ancient and outdated iPhone.

The cloud is the future but there are still limitations globally since many countries lag behind with fast Internet or measly expensive expensive download limits. Apple TV is great and Steve jobs is correct, I am sick and tied of so many different boxes with so many remotes, hence why i am hoping the next apple tv will have blue Ray so i can throw out my DVD player... With that said, who needs Blueray if we can download HD content.

I'd not be investing in a DVD shop now, content is going cloud based. Google TV is exciting especially built in to TV and the convenience to just browse the web via your TV has it's benefits. The best thing about Google TV is that it might make apple do something better with their offering and people that is why competition is great - it drives innovation, even if Google's Dont Be Evil tag line is somewhat questionable these days.
