The Big Lead

Fantasy Sports Ventures, which counts more than 600 owned and affiliated sports sites in its network, has now added popular sports blog The Big Lead to its roster. The NYT says Fantasy Sports Ventures is paying in the “low seven figures” to buy the four year-old site, which was co-founded by Jason McIntyre, a former editor at US Weekly. McIntyre is staying on and will serve as editor and general manager.

Fantasy Sports Ventures has bought up a number of sites over the years, including BaseballHQ, HoopsHype and TheHuddle. The startup’s backers include Gannett (NYSE: GCI) flagship USA Today, which purchased a minority stake in the company two years ago.
