Sony (NYSE: SNE) Ericsson (NSDQ: ERIC) has relocated its North and Latin American headquarters from its offices in Research Triangle Park, N.C. and Miami to Atlanta.
In September 2008, Sony Ericsson cut 450 employees, or more than half of its employees from its North Carolina offices as part of a massive restructuring plan that was an attempt to turn the company around. The new offices, located in the Buckhead section of Atlanta, will be the hub for the company’s regional operations and be home to about 180 employees, including executive teams, sales and marketing staff, and operations. Its global operations will continue to be headquartered out of London.
AT&T’s offices in Atlanta played a role in the company’s decision, Sony Ericsson said in a statement. Anderson Teixeira, Sony Ericsson’s president of Region Americas, said: “Access to impressive office space and a diverse pool of talent, combined with close proximity to AT&T (NYSE: T), and easy access to Latin America, make Atlanta an obvious choice for relocation.”
