Like a lot of companies investing in the BRIC countries lately, Thomson Reuters (NYSE: TRI) is looking to build up its presence in Brazil with the purchase of one of that country’s major legal publishing houses, Revista dos Tribunais. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. At the end of last year, Thomson Reuters laid off 240 staffers at its legal publishing division, a small fraction of that unit’s 13,500 employees. And last summer, it acquired Delhi-based legal info services provider Indlaw.com. At the same time, Reuters has been trying to build up its holdings to court a broader business audience beyond finance. Release
