That absolutely true. Add Chrome and Safari together and WebKit is quickly approaching the market share of Firefox. WebKit is even more popular on handheld devices, iPhone OS, Android, Symbian, among others. Apple, and the rest of us, are now safe from the domination of Internet Explorer. Still, it would be better if Safari was a competitor in its own right.

Good point Jameskatt. Now that we have a couple of iPhones and an iPad, our Mac has transformed in sort of a home server (or "hub" in Applespeak). Handles backups, master copies of documents, does the heavy lifting like ripping (purchased) DVDs, iMovie stuff, etc. But isn't used much for the day to day stuff like music playing, viewing movies, web surfing and games. As such, I'm more inclined to treat it as a server and my next purchase may not be an iMac, but a low end or used Power Mac (or maybe just get the server Mac Mini) to stuff drives in. Also, I'm starting to be very selective of what software (if any - mostly I'm removing software) is installed in order to maintain stability. I imagine this is the end game for most Windows/Mac desktops in the home in the next decade.

What you miss is that for the Mac, marketshare means little. Profits do. And the Mac makes a huge profit for Apple.

The Mac also is the digital hub of the digital lifestyle. For every iPhone or iPad or iPod sold, a Mac may also be sold 50% of the time (the rest are Windows users) Thus the hand-held devices are peripherals whose sales support Mac sales.
