  2. Can the iPad dock fit an iPhone, or will I have to wait for a 3rd party solution for a universal dock?

  3. Gotta admit it looks nice with the dock/keyboard, it’s just for that same functionality a netbook is better AND cheaper.

  4. “it’s just for that same functionality a netbook is better AND cheaper.”

    LOL…riiiight…

    1. Gary, which bit are you saying is untrue – that the iPad is more functional or that the iPad is more expensive?

  5. There’s just no way. Look at the size of that freakin’ thing! I just spent a month in Florida doing spring training and I carried a Sony Vaio P series netbook in my pocket so I could use the Verizon modem to watch games in other places! I did that….last month. I can see the appeal for some people but as a general purpose anything, Apple is a day late and a dollar short on this one.

  6. To finish, they would have done better to have created an actual netbook first, one capable of running the actual OS X. Every other netbook seems to be capable of running it, why can’t Apple produce one? That would actually be useful for more than reading books and porn.

    1. The question is the answer: if a bunch of other netbooks can run OS X, then Apple has to compete on price, which is counter to its philosophy. “We don’t know how to make a sub-$500 computer that isn’t crap,” remember?

Sending this from my new iPad, BTW, which I’m thoroughly enjoying! There are still things about it that throw me, as a non-iPhone user, but it’s much easier to type on than I would have expected, and web browsing is a joy. Looking forward to putting it through the rest of its paces!
