When I saw that Panasonic was talking about IPTV I thought - this should be interesting, another dinosaur talking about how TV is going to change our lives but getting it all wrong.

After listening to the interview, Bob Perry knows his stuff. Really knows his stuff! He understands the current environment and has a good grasp on how things are going to work in the near future.

I like how he continually sidestepped your questions about Web Browsers and Boxee interfaces. Panasonic is going to do things different and focus on the TV experience. Web Browsers don't seem to enhance that experience so they are staying away from it until they do.

Please keep in touch with Mr. Perry and see if you can do more interviews with him as IPTV starts to mature. It would be interesting to see how his vision changes, or stays the same, over time to incorporate new technologies and user viewing habits. Of all the TV manufacturer's I've heard give their view of the future - Bob Perry's at Panasonic has been the best.

What a fantastic interview, Perry clearly has a good handle on the challenges that the CE industry faces. I loved his quote about squeezing a grape too hard and his analogy about forcing consumers to buy chocolate milk.
