We are talking almost 40 Billion in the bank. To amass such an amount they obviously haven’t been investing much as of late.

Not sure if you own stock, but one of the big advantages of hanging on to stock long term is dividends. Why throw your money into a high end corporation to only receive the gain on the stock?

When a company is growing rapidly and can use the capital it generates from operations the best use of that capital is to keep it in the company to support growth. The value of Apple stock has increased and that is how the shareholders have enjoyed in the company’s success.

I am very happy they do not pay a dividend.

Apple seriously hasn’t paid a dividend since 1995!? Shareholders should be pissed about that.

Technically, this is not correct. We won’t know the results of the voting at the shareholder meeting until Apple files it’s Form 8K report with the SEC.

What actually happened here was that proxy votes were counted, the proposals were defeated, then voting was done at the shareholder meeting. Unless hundreds of millions of shares reverse their pre-filed proxy voting at the meeting, those votes never really make a difference.

Mr. Gates is using his personal fortune to give to people in need (actually, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is doing this). Apple’s billions are not Steve Jobs’ to give away, since they belong to the company and its shareholders.

FWIW … It was Tim Cook who made the 25 Apple Stores in China announcement yesterday … albeit Apple SVP Retail, Ron Johnson, will run the show and choose new Apple Store sites in China.
