@Scott that's true but I was also thinking about the 1.29 pricing for most songs now, and I think they probably balance each other out.

@GS you are assuming that all ten billion dollars in revenue was spreadouy evenly throughoutthe seven years. I find it much more likely that the money was focused more directly in the last 2-3 years. Also you forget that iTunes has more than just a music store, though it's true movies don't move that well apps certainly do. Recently a company bought 100 iPod touches for security guards at a large company.each iPod had IRA pro pre installed. That's a 900$ app. Also how much do you think iTunes cost to run? Probably not much. Hardware tajes alot more dev time, engineering resources, and product manufacturing costs. Not to mention with the release if the ipad mire apps are going to be selling like crazy. Last point, last quarter was a holiday quarter. In all honesty anyone hoping for a holiday quarter showing any fiscal quarter but the 2010 holiday is going to be severly disappointed. Sorry for the spelling I'm on my iPod

Even at 9.9 billion, that's over 7 years. Apple's hardware will produce them nearly 50 billion in 2010 alone if the 4th Qtr 2009 was any indication of future sales. 15.7 billion in revenue and 1.2 billion was from the iTMS. so a bit less than 13% of total revenue from iTMS vs 87% from Hardware. Looks pretty clear where Apple's main profit comes from.

Not necessarily - purchasing an entire album can easily drop the per-song price below $0.99. I doubt that album purchases are a majority of Apple's business, but I bet they're significant enough to lower that overall sales figure by a billion or two.
