I also like Add Google Bookmark and the Bit.ly extension. The best has to be Zoho Notebook though. It allows you to quickly save text, link or screenshot to you Zoho Notebook.

Like the extension mentioned in the article, Google Mail Checker Plus displays the number of unread messages (You can disable that), but if also displays those unread messages in a drop-down which you can interact with.
