China-based mobile content and entertainment firm KongZhong has acquired Shanghai Dacheng Network Technology (Dacheng), developer of massively multi-player online (MMO) games. The deal, which the companies expect to close in Q1 2010, is potentially worth $80 million in cash and stock — depending on Dacheng’s future performance.

Beijing and Shanghai-based Dacheng creates 3D games like Loong and World of Kung Fu. In a statement, KongZhong CFO Jay Chang said the company will integrate Dacheng’s game development technology with its own mobile games business; Dacheng’s team will also continue to launch new desktop-based MMOs. Release.
