Playdom has a former EA star as its CEO, a fresh round of $43 million in funding, and now a well-known financial analyst as its CFO. Christa Quarles, formerly managing director of internet services at Thomas Weisel Partners (she’s still actually listed in the job on the website), has joined the social gaming company, SAI reports; both Playdom and Quarles declined to comment.
Quarles spent nearly a decade with the investment bank’s research arm, covering companies like *Google* and *Yahoo*; she joins Playdom in the midst of a social-gaming boom. In addition to Playdom’s funding and acquisitions, rival Zynga just raised an $15.1 million, and Playfish got gobbled up by EA in a deal worth $400 million.
The social-gaming sector has also been grappling with some less-flattering developments lately, including claims that the offer-based ad platforms many companies were using to monetize were scamming users. Meanwhile, Playdom and Zynga are currently duking it out in court over allegations that Playdom poached employees and stole trade secrets.
