Mobile commerce app developer ROAM Data has raised $6.5 million in a second round of funding, per an SEC filing. The new round was led by Ingenico Ventures, the new VC arm of global payment solutions company Ingenico SAS; former Hypercom CEO George Wallner also participated.

ROAM says it will use the money to continue developing commerce and payment apps for both feature phones and smartphones; its recently launched ROAMpay app, for example, turns the iPhone into a secure mobile credit card terminal. In a statement, co-founder and CEO Will Graylin said the company will also use Ingenico’s brand equity to help scale out its own international business.

ROAM previously raised about $2 million in funding, from private investors including Frank Ferguson, president of educational services firm Curriculum Associates (CA). CA tapped ROAM to offer teachers mobile-based student assessment apps, last year. Release.
