Hi Mike

Totally agree with you.

Could you point out some cheaper alternatives?
Livestream is just so easy to set up and manage :)

Had a look at Wowza on EC2, that looks much cheaper and you only pay for what you use. But you have to set it up first.

The $1250 per month streaming from livestream that offers a capacity of 200 GB stream bandwidth can still be expensive for Professional broadcasters. Asssuming a 700 KBPS medium bandwidth at the users/viewer side,if 200 people view an event for 20 mins ave. time at this speed, the bandwidth consumption would be 168 GB, almost to the capacity.

So one has to top up the again to $1250 when the 200 GB capacity is consumed for the above scenario!!

The same type of streaming for the example cited above, whether broadcasting to the Web/Flash or iPhone for more than double the bandwidth and user(viewer) capacity can be done at half the price through some niche technologies!

If you are a broadcaster looking at making *significant profit margins* with mid to large volume streaming over a period of time, better do your homework!
