I am using a Pinnacle USB stick, works nice with EyeTV on my Mac Mini. Streaming to my iPhone and Touch also works fine, exept for HD. HD TV broadcasting just never starts on my iPhone/Touch, but shows fine on my Mac Mini. I am streaming on my local network with a Time Capsule as base.
Have I missed some settings, or?

I had disabled uPnP completely on my router, then just added a manual port forward on port 2170 from the WAN to the internal IP of my MacMini that runs EyeTV.

My modem / router gateway is actually a NetGear, my Airport express is just part of a network extension, so I don't configure anything on that with regards to the forward.

I'm interested in knowing more about your port forwarding work around. I have an airport base station and am getting a double NAT error. I wonder if your work around would work for me as well.

Thanks!

I have a very similar experience, You are correct that streaming and recording stresses the average Mac mini. Here are some of the things I did to help out my MacMini DVR / El Gato iPhone viewing experience:

1) Moved my iTunes library to an external firewire disk. Also moved EyeTv's default recording location to that ext disk. The MacMini internal disk is 4200rpm IIRC, very slow.

2) Moved EyeTV's live cache to RAM instead of disk (see EYeTV prefs).

3) Added El Gato' Turbo.264HD (around $100). Not only does it speed up conversion from native broadcast digital to MP4 (which I send to my AppleTV), but it accelerates live streaming, resulting in faster starts and (mostly) stuttuer free streaming.

4) Mac Mini (700) & AppleTV (300) plus EyeTV (150) plus Turbo264HD (100) plus Hulu Desktop ( Free on the Mac Mini) equals 1250. Which means this setup gives you a lot of TV programming, dump cable which saves 1200 a year. After one year, you save 1200 a year. I've done this for a year and haven't missed live cable/
