Hi Paul,

What is wrong with including a link to listen now? And, now that it's 2010 and 1 year later can you explain the harm in sharing iTunes Ping clips within a curated feed and in Twitter's new multimedia sidebar? With 80% of all digital sales taking place at the iTunes store, and ping failing as a social service, what is the harm with users twittering links to share music they are purchasing?

Twitter is great for letting us know what is going on in the world this second. As it applies to music, it is surely helpful for keeping up with the latest releases or happenings, but for "music discovery," it's a different animal.

Like you said Paul, everybody has their own tastes & preferences. For that reason & many more, we created Rank 'em ( www.gorankem.com ) for fans to rank their favorite songs from all their favorite artists. When you put everybody's favorites together for each individual artist, it creates a powerful resource that anybody can use whether they are the most casual music observer to the most diehard fanatic.

Depends on the design of the discovery engine. If flooding twitter streams with song recommendations may not be such a great idea, being able to get recommendations on demand, based on what you aready like, when in the mood for discovery and without leaving Twitter, could be helpful. TasteKid (@tastekid) does exactly that, bringing a slightly different twist to music recommendations on Twitter. There are also other services that embrace this on-demand approach. Twitter may provide relevant data points for building a knowledge base, but I think having a system that uses various data inputs to build its own knowledge and serving users, on demand, recommendations, is the best approach.
