I once witnessed a great classical pianist (whose name you would immediately recognize) warm up before a concert. He played a simple scale extremely slowly and methodically, staring at each finger as it played each note. He could have played that scale a hundred times faster, but there is genius in "slow". Something happens in our brain and makes the connection when playing is slow and methodical. There is a time later on for rapid practice, but most of the time, practice slowly and methodically. Remember the old story of the turtle and the rabbit? Who won? Right -- not the speedy rabbit, but the turtle.

I agree with Zacqary. It's somewhat biased to try to foresee which business model will dominate the online music segment without looking at the value chain as a whole and the gigantic changes is undergoing,

I personally believe music will become more and more social, both in the way people exchange music and in the way people connect to their preferred artists.

Being so, Internet models as last.fm are my best choice.

What a lot of analysts seem to forget is that the record labels just aren't cool anymore. New artists don't want record deals, nor do they need them to get a fanbase. And selling music on iTunes or distributing it via Spotify is infinitely less useful to the performance-centric independent artists than it is to the old record labels.

The music "industry" has stagnated, and for all intents and purposes is a bunch of rightsholding companies. As the 20th Century's artists retire and stop releasing new material, there's only so much more that these companies can do. Especially when all the new music is free, and the idea of paying for music becomes an anachronism to everyone.
