Communication Networks
- The communication networks and network players that are for electric vehicles are closely linked with the smart grid buildout.
- Utilities are increasingly interested in the nascent, high-bandwidth wireless technology WiMAX for smart grid networks. So far it looks like utilities are interested in building their own WiMAX networks, but it’s an open question whether utilities will want to build their own or use wholesale capacity from an operator such as Clearwire.
- Many automakers, electric vehicle service providers and car sharing networks, are turning to cellular networks.
- Better Place’s AutOS system (see below) will use WLAN and mobile (Slide from GM’s George Bellino presentation at Plug-In 2009.)
