No one is making money on iPhone apps (by making money I mean, measurable, sustainable, profitable revenue from volume). This is what VC’s really looking for and the only thing that does that is a platform for other apps to thrive on. The problem is that the OEM’s own the platform and the carriers own the pipe. So the trick will be to get on the platform – extend it, leverage the pipe (by being inside it e.g. the HTTP protocol) and provide something of value for the customer.
