Verizon's President and COO to Retire
Verizon Communications said today that Dennis “Denny” Strigl, president and chief operating officer, plans to retire from the company by the end of 2009. Strigl is responsible for the operations of Verizon’s network-based businesses — Verizon Wireless, Verizon Telecom and Verizon Business — and is a popular proselytizer for both fiber-to-the-home and the Long Term Evolution fourth-generation wireless network that the carrier will begin to deploy this year. In the release announcing the decision, Verizon did not disclose its plans to name a successor.
When Strigl steps down from the role he assumed in 2007 it will be after after 41 years in the communications industry. He began his career just one year before the Internet was born, and went on to head up one of the companies that has both benefited from the growth of the web and helped push it through technologies such as FiOS and 3G networks.

Long career, and it appears his loss will be felt in the company.
Thats a little surprising. He had a long career but I thought he would succeed Ivan. I wonder if there is something going on there.
