News Corp.’s Europe and Asia CEO lit the blue touch paper Friday evening when he savaged the BBC in a predictably pro-market Edinburgh International Television Festival keynote (see our report). Over the weekend, he defended his speech in a Q&A with Peter Bazalgette (see video): “We believe journalism has value and we trust people to go and pay for that, we trust them every day at the newsstand – why is it so impossible to believe that they might not be trusted in another environment?”
