Scott Lang, Silver Spring Networks, CEO:
Influence: The CEO of smart grid network leader Silver Spring Networks, one of the earliest proponents of networking equipment for the power grid.
The answer to adding digital intelligence to the power grid is internet protocol — that’s the unofficial motto of smart grid networking company Silver Spring Networks. It seems to be working and the seven-year-old company, which is backed by Silicon Valley venture capitalists, has contracts with big utilities like FPL and PG&E for its network hardware and software. The deals are starting to bring in solid revenue and CEO Scott Lang recently told Bloomberg that the company would soon be profitable, and expecting about $200 million in revenue in 2010. Is an IPO in order sometime soon (or as some have speculated, a Cisco acquisition)? Who knows but the firm should scale fast to snap up more utility deals.
