I definitely agree with the comments about the Apple TV. Not only haven't new features been forthcoming, several bugs (such as the "white screen of death", which can only be resolved by rebooting) haven't been fixed for nearly a year.

I would also suggest that iTunes could use some work. It continues to exhibit more than its share of annoying UI flaws (my personal peeve here is that every time you delete a podcast, it asks you whether you want to move it to the trash, and you have to click the confirm button, which isn't the default. Every... Friggin... Time...)

Thanks Mike - Been through all the Keychain trouble shooting in those threads. My point with Apple discussion boards is that Mail is not listed under Applications or anywhere on the main page. But as you said - buried in sub-areas of the OS discussions ... and it's buried for a reason.

Can this be done - use 1Password for POP connections and get rid of Keychain?

Have you tried other alternatives like Thunderbird, or Postbox? These are great mail clients. I'd give 'em a shot. Either that, or switch to IMAP, if that's an option. Or just continually call Apple Support. :)

David,
The Apple discussion boards do areas dedicated to Mail, they're just sub-areas of the OS discussions. Here's a link to the discussion area for Leopard Mail:
http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1223&start=0
And here's a thread that may address your issue (which does sound like it may be a Keychain problem):
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9808635&#9808635
Or maybe here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9475004&#9475004

Good luck!

I always chuckle when my buds on Crank Geeks downrate the AppleTV as only a hobby. Since that's how our family watches the program every week on the HDTV in the living room.

We still use the original 40gb model - since I don't store anything on it except new content which is to be watched, soon. Anything else is stored on my iMac where iTunes downloads automatically.

Then, I delete after watching - as I do with DVR content from DirecTV. A worthwhile old habit.

I think it's apparent that Apple has thrown all its muscle behind the iPhone and its OS.

However, I get the sense that Apple has expanded a lot. Maybe quite so, that is now at the point they need to hire more people. One cannot help but get the feeling they are stretched thin.

And lest we forget, the iPhone was a HUGE effort. It's not like any other product. They had to create an optimised version of OS X and a complete set of APIs. They did this beautifully (an an iPhone developer I'm stunned by their work). And it is no small feat.

So, it is understandable that they have neglected other parts of their hard/soft product lines.

Apple is Apple. They work slowly, they work meticulously and in the end they always come through.
