[...] In case you hadn’t heard, the memorial for Michael Jackson, held in Los Angeles yesterday, was a big deal even for people who couldn’t attend. But how staggering, exactly, was this event’s impact on the Internet? For starters, two terabytes of traffic come through the Akamai network during every second of the service. At 1 p.m. Eastern yesterday, there were 3,924,370 visitors coming through the network every minute. That’s second only to the 4,247,971 visitors per minute that stormed the Web when news of MJ’s death surfaced on June 25. For the most part, though, the Internet held up this time, with few outages reported. People who streamed video on the U.S. fared alright, with just 5 percent reporting video stalling, though 40 percent had those issues in Asia. One predictable setback: Twitter logins were only successful 50 percent of the time during the memorial, but it’s okay; there were more important matters at hand than what you ate for breakfast.
