It’s long been true that electricity cannot be stored efficiently in large quantities. If you need more power (on a large scale), your local power plant must provide it in real time. This drives the cost of electricity up during peak times, and leaves a lot of slack capacity during downtimes. In an effort to save on power costs, one company is selling massive ice machines to make ice during off-peak hours and then help cool data centers during peak times. Cool!
Back to Twitter. I approached that as a place to be less formal and more off-the-cuff, honest and “human.” I was not expecting to broadcast details of my love life there, but it happened because I’m in love and it’s all I think about and that’s that. If this has bummed you out or destroyed what you’ve projected on me, fair enough – it’s probably time for you to leave. You are right, I’m not the same person I was in 1994 (and I’m happy about that). Are you? — Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor on fan reaction to how he used Twitter.
