As an avid cycling enthusiast who just happens to write about mobile technology for a living, a recent Instructables post hit my radar by way of Lifehacker. A talented team has created a method to use your bicycle to charge mobile devices through 5V of USB-power. Since they chose a small $275 motor for the project, you won’t be saving money on those electric bills. However, you can say with pride that your bike ride isn’t adding any pollution, nor is your device sucking juice from the grid. I’m game to try this, but I’ll need to get in better shape before I add any drag to my wheels: Just getting around the neighborhood on two wheels last weekend was a chore.
