Bang on Om! Insecurity is THE word. If you have been to Delhi the past few years you will find it amusing (atleast I do) how The Times of India and The Hindustan Times (both frontline newspapers) continue screaming "We are no. 1". While one says, in a full page ad, We are no 1 in Delhi, the other says We are no 1 in Delhi-NCR. A similar pattern is being observer now-a-days with TV News Channels too. They too have started giving such ads with being no 1 here or there or anywhere!

I think Social Media has started getting inspirations from traditional media...

I love Twitter over Facebook, but honestly, I felt stupid trying to figure it out. And many friends say the same thing. Yes, you just get on and start twittering, but the instructions on different commands is not very intuitive. Then it took 2 weeks to get Twitter to have my name in their search. They were having tech problems, but they didn't broadcast that that was one of them, rather I had to go through layers of online tech support. Assume nobody can figure out how to use it on their first try.

I find Twitter's popularity interesting in that unlike Facebook and Myspace, which have user discoverability to justify their centralization (where is that elementary school friend now?), there's no compelling *technological* reason for twitter to be a centralized site. Isn't it really a fancy email list with a 140 character limit? Couldn't we all just have our own twitter servers, just like we have mail and web servers? Even IM got somewhat decentralized with jabber.

It's just odd that the major feature which requires a centralized server (live search of conversations... the public feed) is the one feature I never actually use. Then again, I'm not trying to sell anything....

I am not at all surprised by the rapid growth of Twitter. Each day I find myself using it for longer periods and increasingly speaking about my finds in conversations with friends. However I am amazed to find myself continuously discovering new ways of using Twitter. My learning primarily stems from others I have started following whether it is for professional reasons or simply because of a personal interest to follow the tweets of a person or company. I also find great value in being able to track the opinions of others in real time on a given topic and can see a strong resemblance to the early days of the web prior to the automated search engines where people would just enjoy ‘surfing’ the sporadic and random interaction of an online community which does not exactly mirror the people and brands in the offline world.
