This is going to be very interesting to keep an eye on. Apple and AT&T have two completely different directions they want to see this go in so I'm anxious to see how it shakes out. I kind of don't know what to exactly think of the iPhone rumors especially with all the Microsoft and Verizon talk recently. Doesn't seem to me they would pull off both. Here's a video I found about Verizon's status in the market:

If they're going to release a lite version it better not have any less features than the current iphone. I can live with out video chat or any of the fancy 4g stuff that will probably be implemented in the new iphone. If they want to do it right they should make it the current iphone only cdma enabled, and for about $199 with a $40/month or more plan. I could do that, and I have a feeling that's the market they're hoping to pick up. This required data plan is alienating a lot of people, especially the ones like college students that have widespread access to wifi and don't need 3g. A "lite" version that is even lighter than the current version doesn't seem to make much sense, but a "lite" cdma version relative to the new iphone does make sense to me.
