You are my kind of creative problem solver. I've been looking for a standing desk and this solution will enable me to get that AND a piece of furniture that will blend in and be useful in the kitchen.

By the way, I created my regular desk with a length of IKEA kitchen counter and some L-brackets. Sounds like a hillbilly creation I know but it's actually fairly attractive and quite sturdy. See it and more on standing desks at my blog: http://billgary.wordpress.com/

Thanks again for the great idea!

I love some of the ideas here. I'm 6'8" and avid runner, but I run into issues with stress fractures due to sitting all day, and consequently, lower bone density. Standing is a simple way to fix it, as I understand it. I'm hoping to be able to build a custom solution for me when we move offices early next year.

I'm curious at how you determine what is a comfortable height though. Particularly, at what positions are your arms and hands? Also, how do you manage perhaps having to go back and forth between papers as well as maybe reading from a text book. Do you per chance use a dual monitor setup?

Basically, I think I'd love to see a followup article, if there isn't one already (I haven't looked yet).

Cheers!

I've been thinking about this for sometime now, your post was all the inspiration I need to move forward with this!

Are you still using the standing workstation? If so, any comments, or suggestions?
