I find the touch screens awkward and difficult to answer when the phone rings…. plus scrolling to locate Contacts is difficult, too. Maybe I just don’t use it enough to fall in love…. time will tell. I think this article was an informative point of view. Appreciate the info!

I have a blackberry for work and an iPhone for personal use. I can type much faster and more accurately on the iPhone. Always use your thumbs, don’t look at what you’re typing, look at the keyboard and don’t stop if you hit the wrong key… chances are 9:1 that iPhone will realize which word you meant and correct it automatically.

I spent the weekend in Florida visiting family and I saw dozens of retired folks using their iPhones to monitor a major golf event as they were out on the town. They all seem to use their index finger, like this article mentions. If you don’t like typing on the iPhone, chances are you’re doing it wrong.

Apple is always ahead of the curve. They added USB ports before others did. They got rid of floppy drives before others did. They popularized the mouse before others did. They shipped multi-touch before others did. They embedded a camera into the laptop before others did….etc, etc…

…Something tells me they are going to remove the keyboard from the laptop before others do. It only makes sense. (The benefits far outweigh the minor inconveniences of a lack of tactile response.)

I’d start practicing your touch-typing skills if I were you!

A touch screen tablet with a usb port &/or bluetooth for a keyboard is not unreasonable to expect. However i imagine on a larger device an onscreen keyboard would be much easier than that on the iphone/iPod (not taking anything away from the iPhone/iPod BTW)

I hope Apple never goes with touchscreens for laptop keyboards, and I’ll be frustrated if they do. ;-)

The iPhone/touch are obviously going to stay with touchscreens, but if as some rumors suggest Apple’s netbook-fighter comes in the form of an upsized iPod touch or a tablet, I hope thate will be provision to plug in a real keyboard.
