It seems that moving enterprise application to the cloud is getting more traction for valid reasons and like GigaSpaces, Appistry seem to making the right move on that regard.

We already got several major Enterprise companies in the Telco and Financial industries moving some of their existing JEE applications on the cloud without the need to re-write thier application.
In another scenario another big Telco provider was successfully able to move his existing IP based Call Center application to SaaS based application running on the cloud. He was able to run successfully over 150 machines and support millions of users. So this is model is not just a theory its already a proven model which i expect will become the common way in which enterprises will be able to get the benefit of cloud services while avoid locking to specific cloud provider.

You can read how this is achieved in one of my recent post here:
<a href="http://natishalom.typepad.com/nati_shaloms_blog/2009/03/its-time-for-auto-scaling-avoid-peak-load-provisioning.html" rel="nofollow">Its time for auto scaling – avoid peak load provisioning for web applications</a>

There is also another post covering the technical aspects on how you can run JEE (Glassfish) on Amazon while dealing with load-balancing affinity, session high availability, self healing etc. on Sun blog <a href="http://blogs.sun.com/vreality/entry/technical_overview_glassfish_3_0" rel="nofollow">here</a>

Doesnt http://www.rightscale.com/ do this already ...fine its restricted to AWS, but thats the biggest cloud out there anyway. I am not sure if there are firms that want to take migrations of their apps between different clouds lightly, it hints at a lack of foresight at the CIO level if clouds get swapped around every now and then (no matter how cool it sounds)

David --

Grand Central (the Halsey Minor software co, not the phone company Google bought), as I remember it, was all about hosted integration and middleware services.

As Derrick mentions, we're doing something very different. We provide a software product that can be used to manage multiple applications across multiple cloud environments. Further, you can host it with a 3rd party (i.e. public cloud), or host it yourself (private cloud), or both, to unify hybrid environments.

I don't see too much in common. Appistry -- at this point -- is just providing a tool to manage a bunch of apps (and apply cloud functionality like auto-scaling, etc.) from a single console. Each app can run wherever the customer wants -- in-house or on a public cloud.
