The UK government’s Directgov public information website has now got a TV presence, adding a Freeview text channel. On the channel 106 slot, Directgov is showing its pages of advice on job hunting, health, motoring, passport renewal etc as well as pointers to get the info via SMS. CEO Jayne Nickalls (via PublicService.co.uk): “We have ambitious goals, and despite already achieving 11 million visits per month online, we know that there are many more people who could benefit from Directgov’s services and information provided in this way. Ultimately we have the technology available to us and we will embrace whichever channels effectively make public services available on demand.”
