Discovery Communications, which as well as the Discovery (NSDQ: DISAB) Channel runs TLC, Animal Planet, Science Channel, Planet Green, Investigation Discovery and HD Theate, is announcing new mobile content services and distribution partnerships on the back of triple digit percentage increases in usage of its mobile services. Discovery Channel and Animal Planet content is now available on the iPhone and iPod touch through vSNAX Videos as ad-supported clips from shows like Deadliest Catch, Mythbusters and Animal Face-Off, and there are community features which allow video sharing with other iPhone and iPod touch users, rating videos and saving favorites for later viewing. On a more primal level FunMobility will distribute themed wallpapers and Zed will distribute realtones, ringbacks and hundreds of wallpapers.

Discovery has also teamed up with Transpera to put ad-supported mobile video on its mobile sites (http://mvideo.discoverychannel.com, http://mvideo.tlc.com and http://mvideo.animalplanet.com) where they’ll be accessible by anyone with an appropriate handset. Content will include Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, Jon & Kate Plus 8, LA Ink, Meerkat Manor, and original short-form series such as Untamed and Uncut. Once again, there will be video sharing, video search and the ability to store favorites. Video services for Planet Green and Discovery Health are also planned for the coming weeks.
