Data revenues are expected to double from $148 billion in 2007 to $347 billion in 2013 when they will represent about a third of mobile carrier revenues, according to a report from Informa Telecoms & Media. Total revenues are predicted to top $1.03 trillion by 2013, driven by an increase in subscription numbers to more than 5.3 billion (which isn’t unique subscribers, IT&M notes a number of countries exceeding 150 percent penetration). 3.5G technologies are predicted to increase their penetration from 1.2 percent in 2007 to 22.9 percent in 2013 — more than the number of 3G subscriptions — but about a third of worldwide subscribers will still be on 2G services.
