Is Extrahop really that different from WildPackets, NetQos, Netscout, Solera etc etc? It seems like a crowded space and there have been few successful exits, regardless of minor feature differentiation.

Network application monitoring tools like this have been around for years but aren't widely deployed. I'm not sure most network managers know or care enough to pay to find out about application delivery.

How long before the foss sysmgmt/netmon/netmgmt tools eat this area up - Nagios, Zenoss, Zabix, Hyperic, etc.? And what about the existing players like Solarwinds, Alterpoint, etc. etc.?

Inetco is doing something similar. Flow based application and network performance monitoring. They have product and customers already in the financial segment.

We've gotten a lot of great feedback from John and our other beta customers which has really helped to shape our product roadmap. VOIP and SAN protocols (including iSCSI) are targeted for the next release.
