Not all technology has to be expensive. And some may actually save you money. Did you know that you can connect the Internet to your HDTV with a $25 cable? Then you can, for example, rent movies online. Just think of the gas you'll save by not having to run down to the video store.

To put a different spin on it.
Let somebody else solve my problem, namely find a way to pay people enough money to buy my product. This doesn't work to well if you don't pay enough to the people you outsource to and if you outsource and don't pay people in the market you sell. Soon nobody has enough money to buy your product. Now you can extend your life time as a company buy offering credit, but not for long.
Everybody who thinks this economic model works, back to school. Btw you can not force a company to sell you a product if you don't have the money.
So if you want to blame somebody, blame the Economist who came up with this racket scheme and the people who knew better but saw a game of quick riches for themselves. For a short time this game will work, but if everybody is looking for somebody else to solve their problem, nothing gets done. Or in this case the world economy comes to the evaluation that people need to make the money to buy the products, it doesn't really matter where on this little planet they are.
Or credit without money/product backing is not a product.
Or you can sell hot air only so many times before it cools.
Or just ask Warren Buffet.

sorry, Stacey while it varies from sector the majority of sw, hw, outsourcing is bought by corporations. While the credit crunch and recession are slowing down demand, there has been a steady focus on squeezing high margin tech items from sw maintenance to printer ink to mobile roaming charges to outsourced processing and storage charges.
Cheap credit certainly fueled much of the boom. People used their homes like ATM machines to finance the purchase of all manner of depreciating assets from Viking Ranges, Hummer H2s to iPhones. The consumer has been driving the economy for years and now they're tapped out. Our country has a NEGATIVE savings rate. It has always been unsustainable.

I will say though that there were Americans who have continued to act responsibly through all of this and they are being slapped with a tax to bail out the greedy and ignorant which is a travesty.

People that think this thing will sort itself out in a couple of years need to do some reading. This will be a long downturn, and there's little the Federal Reserve or the government can do. Just ask Japan.
