I am pretty sure Opera Mini/Mobile is here to stay. But it is hard to evaluate their desktop version's success. With Firefox just zooooooing ahead of the pack and the recent intro of Chrome, Opera has a poor chance (if at all). But I do agree it is a good product (which I never use).

Gecko browsers are never succesful. Just because they exist does not mean that they are used. They are so much less popular than Opera on desktop it's crazy.

I think Opera is a cool company for focusing on a fast browser that sticks to standards, yet still packs so many features.

Saying that non-Mozilla Gecko browsers are unsuccessful is a bit unfair.

On the Nokia Internet Tablet platform, the Opera based browser was dropped for a Gecko browser, MicroB, that has no affiliation with Mozilla.

However, that is only one example. Most Gecko browsers are made for a certain niche, and many of these fufil it quite well.

Epiphany (and previously Galeon) aim to integrate with GNOME and be lightweight. Check!

Kazehakse aims to be a very fast and relatively low resource browser for Linux. Check!

K-Meleon aims to be a very fast and relatively low resource browser for Windows, especially older versions. Check!

Flock is optimized for social media. Check!

While these browsers do not amass a huge marketshare, they are used by the people they appeal to. However, it is hard to track how much marketshare they even have because most track stacking programs throw them all together.
