I recently just wrote a post on my blog about this very issue.

In that for the first time in history having lots of competition can be a good thing. Simply because in the blogosphere the more people you make friends with and help out, the more they can link back to you promote your stuff and everyone works together to boost all their businesses together.

In the real world this could never happen because objects have one use (like there is no need for someone to own 2 kettles, so there is little use in kettle makers promoting other kettles).

However in the online world of information everyones blog is unique and it just makes sense for visitors to want to read many blogs, and as such if you partner up with others you get a lot more traffic, sales etc than ever before.

I think I'm ruthless enough. I steal code from all over the web, make sure to spend most of my time expanding my skills while working on a project, and evaluate every technology I come across in terms of how it could be used to make me money.

I'm definitely too laid back and scatter-brained. I move from project to project every couple of weeks without seeing one all the way through.

But I don't need to be too competitive because I'm awesome.
