L.A. NewTeeVee peeps, we love you! Last night was so much fun. Thanks for coming out and enjoying the Pier Screenings animation edition, putting up with our technical difficulties and drinking our beer. It was a really great crowd and we can’t wait to do it again down here.

Our grand prize winner last night was Get Your War On by David Rees and Brian Spinks, meaning they’ll be receiving a 1-terabyte hard drive, a $100 gift certificate for Threadless, and a custom laptop etching. This excellent piece rounded off the line-up and drew praise from the judges for its voice acting and simple animation style, which as judge Lydia Antonini of Warner Premiere emphasized, would work on many platforms. It’s also just funny.

In second place was Fourth Year Epic by Nicholas Bultera, who was present at the screening. The juxtaposition of animation styles — especially the Care Bears at the end — was a big hit.

Coming in third was The Debate: Spread the Word by FunBox Comedy, which split the audience as to whether the full-on Law & Order theme song rendition was amazing or just too much.

In fourth place was Indie, by Dan Shure, which was praised for its great joke timing. Second through fourth received 320 GB external hard drives from G-Technology. Fifth and sixth were the beautiful The Stressful Adventures of Boxhead & Roundhead – On The Run and Watch the World(s), respectively.

Thanks to our judges Lydia Antonini, Allen DeBevoise and Aaron Simpson, all of whom provided great commentary and critiques.

And of course, big thanks to our sponsors ON2 Technologies, G-Technology, Volomedia, Move Networks and DF SPlash — and our great partners Threadless, Etchstar, Eventbrite and Mozes.

  1. That’s not just any 1-terabyte hard drive that’s a 1-terabyte hard drive from your sponsor G-Tech!

They make great drives and have great service. I’m really happy to see G-Tech sponsoring the online video community.

Keep up the good work and thanks Liz for a great event.

  2. Ha, thanks Tim. It’s actually not from G-Tech, it’s from the loving folks at GigaOM. :)
