This is a great step forward, but there are still quite a few limitations. For example, only one EC2 server can not connect to such a storage volume. This is very different from your typical EMC\NetApp storage machine. While it makes Amazon more similar to traditional IT, it still requires some dedicated engineering to run your application on Amazon.

Having an easier way to access persistent storage lowers the bar for using EC2 for many app developers. But there’s still a long way to go before EC2 is as easy to jump into and start using right away as regular hosting services already are right now.
