JoannassdI had been told that Intel would have some exciting news about SSDs at the IDF and Laptop Magazine tells us they sure did.  Intel is releasing new SSDs within a month that provide a read transfer rate of an amazing 250 MBps.  That’s faster than hard drives and Intel claims their new SSD will do so while adding 30 minutes of battery life to a notebook so equipped.  This sounds very nice, in fact this is the type of performance we have been hoping for with SSDs but have yet to see.  The new SSD will be available in 80 and 160 GB models but no word on suggested pricing.

  1. Pricing doesn’t appear to be the strong suit of these. Expectations are $8 per GB: $640 and $1,280.
